Jose Mourinho has arrived in Madrid with a clear plan to reshape the squad, and he has already moved quickly.

Real Madrid have completed four signings this World Cup year and appear eager for more.

There is strong interest in adding a new midfielder, with several names being discussed.

One of the leading targets is Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, admired by the club. However, no imminent deal is currently on the table.

The club cannot pursue him aggressively until they generate funds through player sales.

Mac Allister fits Mourinho’s profile: technically sound, tactically intelligent, experienced in the Premier League and at the highest international level with Argentina.

Sales Must Come First

The obstacle is not admiration but feasibility. Liverpool are unlikely to negotiate easily, and Mac Allister remains a key player for Anfield.

Consequently, Madrid’s outgoing market is crucial. Offloading midfielders or reducing wage commitments could change the situation; without that, Mac Allister remains a desirable name rather than an active target.

There is also competition within the squad. Federico Valverde is expected to stay and become captain, while the futures of Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga remain uncertain.

A Smart Name, Yet Not a Priority

Mac Allister would add control, pressing intelligence and versatility. He can operate as an interior midfielder, contribute to deeper build‑up play, and provide Mourinho with a player comfortable in both possession and high‑intensity phases.

This makes him a sensible option on Madrid’s list, but Liverpool’s valuation, the need to sell players, and the midfielder’s own preferences will determine whether a deal materialises.

Other candidates being tracked for the same position include Enzo Fernández of Chelsea and Matheus Fernandes of West Ham United.

It appears Mourinho is still refining the midfield profile he wants to add this summer.

Only time will tell if sales free up space for the Argentine midfielder in the coming weeks.
