Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson hit two home runs, while Sal Stewart and Nathaniel Lowe each delivered three-run homers to power a 9-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, clinching the three-game series in Denver.
Hunter Greene (2-1) pitched six innings of three-run ball, allowing four hits and striking out seven without issuing a walk to earn the win.
Stephenson’s two-run blast in the first inning and solo homer in the fifth, along with a double in the seventh, anchored the Reds’ offensive surge. Dane Myers contributed two hits and a run-scoring double in the second. Cincinnati improved to 18-4 in its last 22 games against Colorado.
Colorado’s Hunter Goodman matched Stephenson’s power output, hitting three home runs and driving in five runs. Willi Castro added a solo homer in the ninth, but the Rockies fell for the fourth time in five games.
The Reds struck early, tagging Rockies starter Ryan Feltner (3-4) for five runs in the first inning. With two outs and runners aboard, Lowe launched a 1-0 slider for his 11th homer, and Stephenson followed with a two-run shot to left-center.
Goodman opened the scoring with a two-out solo homer in the first, but Cincinnati responded in the second as Myers doubled, Elly De La Cruz walked, and Stewart crushed Feltner’s first pitch for his 20th homer.
Feltner exited after 2 1/3 innings, surrendering eight runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out three.
Stephenson’s fifth-inning homer off Tanner Gordon extended the lead, and after Hunter Greene retired nine straight batters, Goodman answered with a 435-foot blast to left-center in the sixth.
Goodman capped the game with a 442-foot, two-run homer in the eighth inning against Sam Moll, his 30th of the season, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Reds’ early onslaught.
