Kathmandu, July 28 – Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle emphasized that the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) must implement robust, quality-focused regulation to foster sustainable growth of the capital market.
He noted that SEBON’s leadership should uphold high standards of morale and transparency, thereby safeguarding investor interests. The appointment of new leadership, he added, has already yielded a positive impact on the market.
Wagle highlighted that SEBON plays a role comparable to that of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). He called on the board to engage all relevant stakeholders when drafting legislation and regulations, stressing the need to make the market more attractive and competitive by ensuring the security of investors’ assets.
During the briefing, SEBON Chair Dr Gopal Bhatta revealed that a comprehensive blueprint for the capital market has been developed and is being rolled out. Within the current month — mid‑August — a new directive will be issued to govern IPO issuance in both primary and secondary markets, as well as intra‑day trading, margin lending, and short‑selling, following stakeholder consultations.
A high‑level delegation headed by Minister Wagle conducted an inspection of SEBON on Monday. (RSS)
