The precise cause of death has not yet been released, though a fundraising page posted by her brother noted that she “tragically lost her life in an accident.”
An outpouring of tributes from family and sporting clubs began Thursday evening, honoring the Victorian sprinter.
A fundraising page established for Stapleton’s family included the following statement: “It is with deep sorrow that the Stapleton family, currently on a holiday together, mourns the loss of their beloved daughter, sister, and partner Jemma.”
Created on Thursday, the page has already surpassed its $100,000 target.
“This GoFundMe, approved by the family, aims to relieve some financial strain so they can grieve together and spend as much time as possible navigating this impossible loss,” the page stated.
Stapleton’s partner, Tyler Gray, expressed on Instagram, “I cannot put the pain into words.”
“You were the greatest gift in my life, and I am endlessly grateful for the love we shared.”
“I love you with all my heart.”
Her brother, Joel, shared an Instagram tribute that read: “Rest in peace.”
“I love you deeply, and I promise to make you proud. You were the finest sister and my closest friend; I will miss you forever.”
Joel also shared the fundraising page on his Instagram story, saying: “So grateful for all of you.”
Lysterfield Junior Football Club also issued a tribute to the young athlete, acknowledging that both her partner and brother were part of its community.
