Renfe Announs Significant Service Disruptions Amid Ongoing Rail Union Dispute

The railway operator has announced substantial service interruptions for Monday in response to the current rail union strike, with a total of 320 trains canceled. The disruption affects operations across high-speed, long-distance, regional, and commuter services. According to the Ministry of Transport, 262 trains will run on high-speed and long-distance routes, accounting for 73% of normal services, while 420 regional trains will maintain 65% of their usual timetable. Commuter services will see their schedules halved, with trains operating only during peak hours. Passengers affected can explore alternatives or check cancelled itineraries on the operator’s website. Subsequently, a second strike is scheduled for July 15. Renfe also discussed challenges such as the outsourcing of maintenance and the closure of its rolling stock workshop in Miranda de Ebro. The labor dispute centers on concerns over the future of Renfe Mercancías, with union leaders condemning what they describe as the company’s premeditated abandonment and rejecting planned joint ventures.
