Prior to the Belgrade shooting on May 3, 2023, mass gun violence was an exceedingly rare occurrence in Serbia, and school shootings were virtually non-existent. During the incident, the perpetrator retrieved two handguns from his father’s safe, concealed them in his backpack, and proceeded to his school, where he opened fire in the hallway and a classroom.
