Rhys McClenaghan Secures Spot in Commonwealth Games Pommel Horse Final with Record Score

Olympic champion Rhys McClenaghan delivered a near-flawless performance on the pommel horse, posting a record-breaking score of 14.500 to all but guarantee his place in the Commonwealth Games final.

The 27-year-old captivated the Emirates Arena audience, even celebrating with a jig after completing his routine, which showcased a fresh and innovative program.

McClenaghan now leads the qualifying standings following two subdivisions, putting him in an exceptionally strong position to compete in Monday’s final.

His official qualification will be confirmed after the final qualifying subdivision at 17:30 BST, but he remains significantly ahead of his closest competitors.

The score combines a difficulty rating of 5.500 and an execution score of 9.000, both the highest marks achieved in the competition so far.

McClenaghan, who withdrew from competition throughout 2022 following shoulder surgery, is pursuing his third Commonwealth Games medal, having won gold in 2018 and silver in 2022.
