Ripple, the cross-border payments leader, has officially partnered with South Korea’s Jeonbuk Bank to integrate blockchain-based payment solutions, marking a strategic milestone for both organizations. This collaboration aims to modernize international transactions by replacing traditional SWIFT infrastructure with faster, cost-effective blockchain technology.
Jeonbuk Bank, established in 1969 in Jeonju and later expanding to Seoul in the 1970s, brings decades of financial expertise to the table. By adopting Ripple’s blockchain-powered systems, the bank reduces transaction times from days to mere minutes—or even seconds—while enabling 24/7 real-time processing. Additionally, Ripple’s low-cost framework eliminates many intermediaries, cutting fees significantly compared to legacy banking networks where outgoing transfers often exceed $20 and incoming payments may reach $16.
According to Crypto researcher “Ripple Bull Winkle,” a recent $59 million RLUSD settlement on the XRP Ledger reportedly cost only $0.000188—a testament to Ripple’s institutional-grade scalability and efficiency.
Fiona Murray, Managing Director of Ripple’s Asia-Pacific operations, emphasized the broader impact: “As the first regional bank in Korea to deploy Ripple Payments, Jeonbuk Bank is extending near-real-time cross-border settlement directly to the businesses it serves. This is a meaningful step for Korea’s broader financial ecosystem.”
Park Choon-won, President of JB Jeonbuk Bank, added: “This partnership will become a new growth engine for the bank. We are committed to leading innovation that reshapes the financial paradigm, going beyond simply adopting new technology.”
With South Korea ranking among the world’s top economies—boasting a GDP of $1.93 trillion—and representing a critical hub in APAC markets, this alliance strengthens Ripple’s foothold across the region. It follows previous partnerships with Kyobo Life Insurance and Kbank, reinforcing Ripple’s strategic push into one of Asia’s most dynamic financial landscapes.
