The premiere of “Wrath of the Gods” at London’s FrightFest horror festival this Friday marks both a triumphant culmination and a poignant tribute. The event, celebrated by Shetland cast and crew, arrives amid the recent loss of Justin Hardy, Robin Hardy’s son and co-director, who passed away last month at 61.
“We were all eager to see the finished film—and still are,” says John Hardy. “But today isn’t just about celebrating the movie. It’s honoring Justin and the life he lived. It’s a bittersweet mix of joy and grief.”
For Lynsey Hardy, the film represents perseverance through uncertainty. “It was a huge risk to take on this project,” she reflects. “Reaching this milestone feels almost miraculous. It’s heartbreaking Justin won’t be there to witness it—the vision he fought so hard to realize.”
The completed trilogy now serves as a multi-generational tribute. “Wrath of the Gods” concludes Hardy’s Wicker trilogy and is dedicated to Caroline Hardy, Robin’s late wife, who worked uncredited as an executive producer on the 1973 original. She died in 1984, unaware her support would eventually inspire such enduring acclaim.
“This moment will be deeply moving,” says Dominic Hardy. “Knowing it’s screening at FrightFest—something Justin championed—feels like a gift. His dedication brought us closer as a family, channeling our energy into something meaningful.”
