Last night, Big Thief premiered their new triple album Horsepower at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, featuring guest appearances by Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, and Iris DeMent, who joined the band onstage.
The record was introduced with a joke from Adrianne Lenker: “If you were hoping to hear any of the familiar songs, those can be set aside.” While the tracks were not performed in strict order, the group played the entire 29‑song album in full. Several of the songs had previously appeared in the band’s live sets or in Adrienne Lenker’s solo performances, and two — “Carry” and “Space and Time” — were first debuted in a field recording session for Belgium’s Radio 1 in May.
Big Thief’s most recent release, and first as a trio, Double Infinity, came out in 2025. In the coming month they will begin a North American tour to support the record, culminating with a final show at Denver’s Red Rocks on October 6.
