Upon entering Rokid’s newly inaugurated flagship store in Hong Kong, customers are met not by sales staff, but by interactive digital displays and an automated robotic system positioned at the exit.
In an initiative the Chinese augmented reality (AR) innovator describes as a “no man’s land” retail experiment, the shopping experience is entirely self-guided. Customers can independently test AI-powered smart glasses, process payments via digital screens, and collect their purchases from an automated system upon departure, all without any human sales intervention.
Located in the Harbour City shopping complex, the unstaffed storefront represents a global first for the smart-glasses industry, according to Zoro Shao, Rokid’s Vice President and Head of International Business.
Rokid intends for this automated retail model to serve as a key differentiator as the company pursues global expansion. Shao noted that during its trial phase, the store averaged five to six daily sales of wearables priced at approximately HK$4,688 (US$599), a performance that significantly surpassed the company’s initial projections.
