Rome’s international audiovisual market (MIA) will launch its 12th edition under a new format, spreading across multiple Via Veneto hotels in the Eternal City—famous as the backdrop of “La Dolce Vita”—and forging a closer tie‑in with the Rome Film Festival.
Historically held on different calendars, the International Audiovisual Market (MIA) and the Rome Film Festival will now coincide. MIA will run from October 19 to 23, overlapping the festival’s dates of October 13 to 25.
“Our goal is to embed the market more deeply in the city and position Rome as a leading film and television hub during this period,” says MIA director Gaia Tridente in an interview with Variety.
The initial phase of the partnership will grant market buyers automatic accreditation to attend the Rome Film Festival’s morning screenings—typically reserved for press and industry—including the Alice in the City sidebar focused on children’s and youth cinema.
Scheduled conversations include fireside chats with Banijay CEO Marco Bassetti, Studiocanal CEO and Canal+ CCO Anna Marsh, Bad Wolf CEO Jane Tranter, and director Edward Berger (“All Quiet on the Western Front”). Additional on‑stage sessions will feature Oscar‑winning doc director Asif Kapadia (“Amy”), pioneering documentary filmmaker Kim Longinotto (“Shooting the Mafia”), and Trevor Roth, COO and president of development at Roddenberry Entertainment, celebrating 60 years of “Star Trek.”
Over 100 projects from 43 countries will be showcased, spanning development stages. Highlights include a preview of Sky Italia’s premium Gucci family series “Gucci: Game Over” (director Gabriele Muccino), Sudanese filmmaker Mohamed Kordofani’s upcoming drama “About Love & September Laws” (following his Cannes‑breakout “Goodbye Julia”), the documentary “Ducati 100 Years of a Legend” (directed by Alex Infascelli, produced by Minerva Pictures Group), and the U.K. children’s animation “Barry Loser” (based on Jim Smith’s books, produced by Big Little Fish Television). The latter is part of MIA’s new Animation Series Gap Financing Market, which supports internationally commissioned animated projects that already have broadcaster backing and secured financing.
A key panel, “Producing With AI: Augmentation or Replacement?”, will feature Max Wiedemann, Mediawan’s managing director and head of AI, and Tom Paton, CEO of AiMation (creator of the AI Reality series “Non Player Combat”). The discussion will be followed by a companion keynote from Al Munteanu, CEO of BriskPace Studios (Munich‑London), exploring AI’s practical applications across the production pipeline. The keynote will be moderated by Steve Saltzman, U.S. entertainment lawyer and head of the International Entertainment Group at Fieldfisher LLP.
