Roy Jones Jr. Issues Stark Warning on Jaron Ennis vs. Vergil Ortiz Matchup: “He Might Not Win”]

Roy Jones Jr. has provided his analysis on a potential showdown between Jaron Ennis and Vergil Ortiz following Ennis’s dominant performance last weekend. Ennis claimed the WBA and WBO super-welterweight titles with a seventh-round stoppage victory over Xander Zayas at Barclays Center in New York.

The 36-0 prospect successfully unified another division after his previous triumph at welterweight, improving his knockout tally to 32. Despite the victory, Ennis faced some difficulty in round three against Zayas, absorbing several significant shots.

Jones advises Ennis not to underestimate Ortiz, emphasizing the Mexican fighter’s superior pedigree.

“Put Vergil Ortiz in front of him and watch he don’t go to sleep. He might not win, but it won’t be because he went to sleep, because that’s a higher pedigree.

“That’s a guy with a better background, with a better past, with a better track record, a guy that he knows if you go to sleep, he gonna beat you. So he’s not going to go to sleep on him. I promise you he ain’t.”

As WBC interim super-welterweight champion, Ortiz presents a formidable challenge with his 24-0 record, including 22 knockouts.

While Jones express confidence in Ennis’s focus against Ortiz, Ryan Garcia has indicated a different prediction for the matchup.
