Authorities clarify the arrest is unrelated to the separate probe concerning RAF Fairford.

British police have detained and formally charged a serving Royal Navy member in connection with an investigation by counterterrorism units, following allegations that the suspect assisted an unspecified foreign nation.

Teddy Young, 24, faces two counts under the National Security Act, accused of securing sensitive material and preparing to disclose it to advance the interests of a foreign power.

Prosecutors stated that between November 2024 and May 2025, Young “obtained, copied, recorded or retained protected information, intending the conduct to benefit a foreign power… contrary to section 1 of the National Security Act 2023″.

He is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court later this Thursday.

“These are very serious charges against a serving member of the armed forces,” Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, stated.

She noted that investigators coordinated closely with the Ministry of Defence throughout the inquiry to mitigate any potential security risks associated with the case.

The officer was reportedly detained at his residence in Bedfordshire on Tuesday prior to being held in London.

Police confirmed the case is distinct from the ongoing investigation into an incident at RAF Fairford airbase.
