Approximately two months after the investigation commenced, Brand was interviewed under caution for the first time, followed by two additional interviews in subsequent months. During each session, he submitted a prepared statement asserting that he did not recognize the complainants or recall the alleged incidents, maintaining that any sexual activity would have been consensual. He subsequently declined to answer officers’ questions, responding “no comment” throughout.
In early April 2025, prosecutors charged Brand with one count of rape, one count of oral rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one allegation of indecent assault; the latter charge was later amended to attempted indecent assault ahead of trial. These charges pertained to women who came forward following the initial Channel 4 documentary.
The following month, Brand appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London, where a significant media presence delayed his entry into the building. At a subsequent hearing, he entered not guilty pleas to all counts.
As legal proceedings advanced, additional women continued to come forward with further allegations.
In July 2025, Brand underwent a fourth police interview before being charged with additional offences: one count of rape and one count of sexual assault. He denied these allegations as well.
On 14 October 2026, accompanied by his wife Laura, the actor and comedian entered the dock at London’s Southwark Crown Court for the commencement of his trial.
