Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi convened on the sidelines of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku, Azerbaijan, where they reviewed key aspects of Russia-China cooperation and exchanged views on pressing regional and international issues.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the bilateral meeting covered developments in comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation, emphasizing shared priorities such as enhanced political coordination and synchronized positions on global matters including the situations in Ukraine and Iran.

The ministers underscored mutual support for stability in the Middle East and expressed concern over escalating tensions in Iran, jointly calling for peaceful resolution through diplomatic channels. Meanwhile, both sides reiterated their commitment to maintaining a strong strategic bond, building on a summit held in August between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping.

Beijing has consistently upheld its stance of an enduring “no-limits” partnership with Moscow since the onset of the Ukraine conflict, advocating at the same time for dialogue and negotiations aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region.
