Russia Condemns Renewed Strikes on Iran, Citing Violations of Diplomatic MemorandumRussian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Tuesday that recent military strikes against Iran are undermining efforts to resolve disputes regarding Tehran’s nuclear program, according to reports from Anadolu.
During a joint press conference following discussions with Chadian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Sabre Fadoul in Moscow, Lavrov asserted that the resurgence of military activity against Iran constitutes a violation of the memorandum signed between Tehran and Washington last month.
The Pakistan-mediated agreement was intended to end the conflict that began in February and facilitate negotiations concerning the nuclear program. However, recent exchanges of strikes between the United States and Iran have escalated, alongside claims of control over the Strait of Hormuz—a vital waterway for global oil and gas shipping—following blockages by Tehran in response to US-Israeli strikes.
“The most critical concern is that these actions prevent a settlement. It shuts the door that the memorandum appeared to have opened,” Lavrov remarked.
“We view this as a violation of the agreement. It is a regrettable development, as civilian infrastructure in Iran and civilian facilities throughout the Gulf region are suffering. This path leads nowhere constructive.”
Addressing the situation in the Black and Azov Seas, Lavrov noted that Russia is working to counter “threats posed by Ukraine to freedom of navigation.”
“President Vladimir Putin is working to ensure that these activities are stopped,” Lavrov stated when questioned regarding reported attacks on vessels in the region.

The Russian foreign minister accused Kyiv of conducting strikes intended exclusively to inflict damage.
“This has moved beyond piracy. Pirates at least seek to profit; here, the intent is neither for profit nor for anyone else—it is simply to cause damage and spread fear. This is pure terrorism,” he said.
He further alleged that Ukraine cooperates with various actors, including “African extremists seeking to overthrow legitimate governments,” in an effort to undermine Russia.
Lavrov referenced Turkish media reports regarding new attacks by Ukrainian sea drones against Turkish vessels and tankers carrying Turkish cargo, noting that the Blue Stream pipeline supplying gas to Türkiye has also been the target of repeated “terrorist attacks.”
The minister assured that Russia remains committed to supplying food to African nations despite geopolitical tensions. “We will continue to fulfill all our obligations regarding food supplies to our African partners, both through commercial contracts and humanitarian assistance, in accordance with their wishes, as we have consistently done,” he concluded.
