Russia Directs Closure of German Consulate in St. Petersburg Amid Strained Relations

MOSCOW —Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday announced the closure of the German consulate in St. Petersburg, a targeted response reflecting escalating diplomatic frictions between the two states.

The ministry indicated that these moves are retaliatory toward Germany’s “unfriendly” decision taken on Wednesday to close the Russian consulate in Bonn and the Russian House cultural centre in Berlin.

Moscow denied any role in the incident.
