Russia Escalates Aerial Assault on Kyiv with Ballistic Missiles

Russian forces launched a coordinated ballistic missile barrage against Kyiv overnight, killing one civilian and injuring at least 14 others, according to local authorities.

A widespread attack targeted multiple districts of the capital, with Ukrainian officials confirming that air defenses intercepted 18 of 41 incoming missiles. Additionally, anti-drone systems neutralized 108 unmanned aerial vehicles deployed alongside the strike.

President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the assault as “one of the most intense ballistic missile barrages on Kyiv since the invasion began,” underscoring the relentless nature of Russian aggression. Meanwhile, Ukrainian retaliatory operations persist—recent drone strikes in Russia’s Stavropol region damaged an industrial facility, as reported by regional Governor Vorotnikov.

The assault leveraged advanced weaponry, including Iskander and hypersonic Zircon cruise missiles, alongside 125 drones, per Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson comments. Civilian infrastructure bore the brunt, with residential and commercial buildings damaged—including a supermarket and student dormitory, per Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko’s Sunday address.

Firefighters continue battling blazes at two warehouse facilities struck during the attack. Separately, Zelensky reported that Russian forces have deployed “nearly 1,450 combat drones, over 1,640 guided bombs, and 99 precision-guided missiles” against Ukraine in the past week alone.

These strikes follow Kyiv’s successful drone raids on Russian logistics hubs, including a Wildberries fulfillment center, which resulted in eight fatalities and extensive fire damage, according to cross-border military reports.
