Russia Pledges Retaliation After Ukrainian Drone Strikes on Moscow as Ruling Party Claims Election Victory

Russia pledged on Sunday to escalate its strikes on Kyiv following Ukrainian drone attacks targeting Moscow on the final day of parliamentary voting, while an exit poll indicated the ruling United Russia party was headed for victory in the tightly managed election.

Ukrainian forces launched waves of drones at the Russian capital and surrounding region on Sunday, resulting in two fatalities and igniting a fire at an oil refinery, according to officials.

The Russian Defence Ministry accused Ukraine of seeking to “disrupt the democratic will of Russian citizens” and promised a forceful response.

A state-run pollster’s exit survey projected United Russia would secure approximately 49.4 percent of the vote, a result largely consistent with the previous parliamentary election.
