Russian airstrikes in Ukraine have resulted in the deaths of at least two individuals on Saturday, following a catastrophic explosion at a shopping center the previous day, local authorities confirmed.
The Kyiv City Military Administration disclosed a fire erupting in a warehouse located in the Darnytskyi district of the capital after intercepting a ballistic missile alert. A spokesperson for the administration stated through Telegram: “Based on initial assessments, one fatality and multiple injuries have been confirmed.”
In the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, a Russian drone strike caused a fatality for one man and injured four additional citizens, as announced by regional military administrator Ivan Fedorov.
The recent strikes occurred amid a series of Russian bombardment campaigns over recent days, which have claimed at least 20 lives nationwide, including a coordinated drone assault Friday on a crowded mall in Kryvyi Rih, the capital’s native city of President Volodymyr Zelensky. Recovery efforts persisted overnight, reported regional military governor Oleksandr Ganzha, noting nine missing persons, including two minors. Emergency services documented 130 wounded, with 23 being children.
The UN reported Saturday that the accumulated civilian death toll this year had reached its highest level since the early stages of the war. Ukrainian officials have maintained urgent requests to allied nations for enhanced defensive capabilities as Russia intensifies missile assaults, with Ukrainian air defenses specifically challenged in neutralizing large-scale ballistic missile barrages.

Ukraine has concurrently amplified precision strikes against military infrastructure in territory Russia occupies, partly as retaliatory measures to pressure Moscow towards diplomatic negotiations aimed at resolving Europe’s most severe armed conflict since WWII. However, diplomatic negotiations have seen no advancement towards ceasefires, with Russia insisting on unconditional territorial concessions and regime changes in Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Zelensky emphasized Friday that accepting any terms short of complete withdrawal of Russian forces would equate to national surrender, leaving the country vulnerable to renewed occupation.
