England internationals Alessia Russo and Alex Greenwood have been named among the 30 nominees for the women’s Ballon d’Or.
The pair represent the only Lionesses on the shortlist, which notably excludes three-time reigning winner Aitana Bonmatí after the Barcelona star missed a significant portion of the season due to a broken leg.
Arsenal forward Russo, who finished third in last year’s voting, produced another prolific campaign, netting 24 goals across 40 appearances for her club.
Manchester City captain Greenwood earned her nomination after skippering the side to a Women’s Super League and FA Cup double last season.
Scotland’s Caroline Weir also features on the list following a productive spell at Real Madrid, where she scored 20 goals in all competitions before her summer move to Lyon.
The award marks its 70th anniversary this year, having been established by France Football in 1956. The winner will be revealed at a ceremony in London on 26 October.
The choice of London as the venue serves as a symbolic tribute to Sir Stanley Matthews, the inaugural recipient of the Ballon d’Or and a former England great.
