San Diego FC Coach Confirms Hirving Lozano’s Loan to LA Galaxy Won’t Disrupt Team Focus

Mexico forward Hirving Lozano has completed a loan transfer to MLS rivals LA Galaxy, confirming he will continue his career in the league but away from San Diego FC. The move comes after the winger lost his place in the San Diego lineup.

Head coach Mikey Varas emphasized that the departure is a mutually beneficial decision for both parties. Speaking at a Leagues Cup press conference before San Diego’s August 9 fixture against Tijuana, Varas said the move “doesn’t affect the group at all,” noting that the squad is sticking to its planned approach.

Lozano’s stint with San Diego began brightly in 2025 but deteriorated sharply this year. In 2026, the winger has not featured in any MLS or Leagues Cup matches for the club, marking a stark decline.

His 2025 campaign was productive, with 34 appearances, 11 goals and 8 assists, making him one of the club’s top scorers during its debut MLS season.

Varas added that he is pleased a solution was found for both the club and the player. “I’ve always believed he could keep progressing in his career,” he commented during Saturday’s pre‑match briefing.

The two clubs will meet again soon, as San Diego FC hosts LA Galaxy on August 29 at Snapdragon Stadium, giving Lozano a chance to return to the venue where he once played.

Alejandro Alvarado sends Lozano well wishes

Midfielder Alejandro Alvarado shared a positive view of Lozano’s new chapter. “We’re glad he found a place where he can play and be himself,” Alvarado remarked, reflecting on his former teammate’s move to the Galaxy.

Alvarado highlighted Lozano’s professionalism, describing him as “always a good teammate.” He added that the squad is “excited for him” as he begins a new loan spell with LA Galaxy, offering his best wishes for the upcoming season.
