Federal authorities have arrested and charged two men, including one who repeatedly pretended to be a San Francisco 49ers player, for defrauding more than two dozen women of roughly $1.3 million.
Daejon Love, 35, and Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, were taken into custody on Aug. 24 in Boise, Idaho, and face charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon and court documents.
The scheme began in February 2022, when Love used dating apps to meet women. In his online profiles and on social media, he created fictitious personas—most notably presenting himself as a 49ers player and as a wealthy real‑estate investor. Among the aliases Love employed were Jon Love, Avril Lyto Love and Jordan Love.
Love and Chan allegedly operated the fraud for over four years, targeting victims across California, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. Chan posed as Love’s financial adviser, while Love convinced the women they were in genuine romantic relationships and that his investments would generate massive returns.
He fabricated bank and investment accounts, sharing screenshots to lend credibility to the scheme. Love also solicited personal loans from some victims, promising repayment that never materialized. He would cut off contact once a woman ran out of funds or asked too many questions.
Financial records indicate the duo received about $1.3 million from 26 identified victims, though investigators believe the total number of victims is much higher. The FBI issued arrest warrants on Aug. 17, 2026, and the pair were apprehended at the Boise airport after Chan flew in to meet Love.
Both men are currently in federal custody in Boise.
