On Tuesday, the Saudi‑led coalition reported intercepting missiles launched by Yemen’s Iran‑backed Houthi forces aimed at Aramco’s headquarters in Dhahran.
The announcement came after powerful booms were heard in the vicinity, according to six sources who spoke to Reuters on Tuesday, with the coalition confirming that missile fragments landed in a nearby residential area.
Aramco provided no immediate comment, although a source observed plumes of smoke emanating from its headquarters.
Earlier on Wednesday, Saudi Civil Defence issued an early warning for the country’s eastern region, followed shortly thereafter by another alert for Riyadh after the interceptions.
A notable boom was audible across the Saudi capital following the issuance of those alerts.
