Saudi Leadership Extends Condolences to Algeria Over Deadly Orphanage Fire Tragedy

JEDDAH: Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have expressed their deepest condolences to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune following a devastating fire that claimed 11 lives at an Algerian childcare facility on Thursday morning.

The fire broke out before dawn at the facility located in the Mohammadia district of Algiers. According to AFP, an electrical spark from an air conditioning unit activated while the facility was operating became the cause. The incident occurred during an intense heatwave currently affecting the region.

“On behalf of the Saudi people, I extend my heartfelt condolences to President Tebboune, the bereaved families, and all citizens of Algeria,” stated King Salman. He further called for divine mercy for the deceased, articulated patience to those grieving, and wished recovery to those wounded in the catastrophic event.

Echoing the king’s sentiments, the Crown Prince voiced his “deepest condolences and sincere sympathy” to the Algerian president and victims’ families while imploring prayers for the safety of the injured. Both royal figures emphasized solidarity between the two nations during this difficult time.

Algerian civil defense officials reported the blaze resulted in nine injuries requiring medical attention. Authorities have not yet released specifics regarding child fatalities among the casualties, while emergency services tackled the flames that engulfed the facility.

This incident occurred amid an unprecedented fire outbreak across northern Algeria last week, with nearly 1,000 wildfires reported. Many were successfully contained, though the week marked several tragic losses and widespread environmental destruction. As temperatures remain elevated, drought conditions and climate change continue to amplify severe fire risks across northern Algeria, compelling repeated emergency responses in recent months.
