RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Masam project removed 1,256 explosive devices from multiple regions of Yemen last week, according to a recent report. The items include 1,201 unexploded ordnance, 41 anti‑tank mines, and 14 anti‑personnel mines. The explosives had been placed indiscriminately across the country, threatening civilians of all ages, including children, women, and the elderly. Demining operations were carried out in Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al‑Bayda, Al‑Dhale, and Saada.

The work brings the cumulative total cleared since the Masam project began in 2018 to 594,745 mines.

Teams focus on clearing villages, roads, and schools to allow safe movement for civilians and the delivery of humanitarian aid. The initiative also trains local demining engineers, supplies modern equipment, and provides support to Yemenis injured by explosives.

Through its humanitarian arm, KSrelief, Saudi Arabia continues to work on removing mines from Yemeni territory, aiming to improve civilian safety and help residents live in a secure and dignified environment.
