Gervonta Davis is preparing to return to the ring in the coming year and could potentially step into a world title contest immediately, as one contender has extended an offer for him to reclaim his former championship under specific conditions.
Davis has previously held championships at both super-featherweight and super-lightweight, most recently serving as the WBA lightweight champion. However, he was stripped of the world title following an extended period of inactivity that began in March 2025.
Instead of a clean stripping, the 31-year-old has been classified as the WBA’s ‘champion-in-recess’ in the 135-pound division. Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi are set to clash next weekend in Chicago to decide the vacant WBA crown.
Before that bout, Schofield told Fight Hub TV that he would be open to defending the belt against Davis, should he defeat Bahdi to claim the lightweight world title at just 24 years old.
“I’m not going to lie. If Tank did want to come back and was like, ‘I want that fight and I want that belt back,’ I have no problem with it because he is the so-called boogeyman.
“Like I have always been saying, if you get Tank on your record, if you beat Tank, then there is not a lot that people can say.
“Until then, I am looking to collect all of the belts at 135lbs and to then go on to 140lbs.”
Schofield-Bahdi is scheduled to occur at the Wintrust Arena on Saturday, October 10, with Ricardo Sandoval defending his unified WBC and WBA flyweight world titles against fellow Mexican Sergio Mendoza Cordova in the co-main event.
