The Dallas Cowboys’ head coach kept his postgame remarks brief and businesslike following a commanding 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, a win that kept the team relevant in the NFC East race.
After leading his team to a decisive second-half performance, Brian Schottenheimer limited his media session to just over four minutes — one of the shortest press conferences of the season. When describing the game, he offered only concise responses, calling it “good” and “solid.”
A reporter directly addressed his brevity at the conclusion of the brief conference, asking, “You seem a little short. Not as exuberant as you’ve been in the past — is everything OK?”
“Nope, I’m great,” Schottenheimer replied tersely. “Excited for our guys.”
However, quarterback Dak Prescott offered additional insight into his coach’s demeanor, confirming that Schottenheimer was indeed frustrated despite the convincing win.
“Definitely hungry, pissed-off version of Shotty,” Prescott said after the Monday Night Football victory. “It’s not like he’s naive. It’s not like he hadn’t heard some noise about him. And whether it’s the calls in the games or whatever doubt that’s been out there. But we’ve got his back. He knows that. He’s a guy that takes a lot of pride in his job, a lot of pride in this team.”
Criticism of Schottenheimer’s offensive approach has intensified throughout the season, particularly regarding the team’s run-pass balance. Dallas has recorded the fourth-fewest rushing attempts in the NFL through the first six weeks.
However, against the Eagles, Schottenheimer made a clear adjustment, giving running back Javonte Williams a career-high 25 carries for 155 yards — both single-game peaks for the veteran back. Backup Tyler Goodson also contributed with 10 carries for 38 yards, helping the Cowboys establish a more balanced attack.
The criticism reached a peak following the Cowboys’ Week 6 loss to the Green Bay Packers, where the team threw the ball 54 times but managed only a 23-13 defeat. Radio personality Shan Shariff notably called for Schottenheimer to relinquish play-calling responsibilities to offensive coordinator Klaytoh Adams.
Looking ahead, the Cowboys will host the Arizona Cardinals next week in a crucial game where a win would move them back to .500 and allow them to close the gap on the division-leading New York Giants in the NFC East standings.
