New Delhi, July 3: England stand on the brink of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup glory after overcoming South Africa in the semi-finals to set up a blockbuster final against six-time champions Australia at Lord’s. Former New Zealand international and JioStar expert Katey Martin believes the hosts’ experienced spine, marshalled by captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight, proved decisive in securing their place in the title decider.
Speaking on JioStar’s Adidas Match Centre Live, Martin lauded Sciver-Brunt’s composed innings after an early wobble, underscoring the skipper’s knack for adapting under pressure.

Sciver-Brunt and Knight Anchor Chase
Martin highlighted how Sciver-Brunt’s experience and temperament shone through during a match-defining partnership with Knight that wrestled momentum back in England’s favour.
It was a controlled innings. It was fluid in the way she went about it. There were a few nerves early on, but I think they assessed the situation really well. She’s so comfortable with her game and so good at adapting to different situations. We saw that in the WPL, where she became the first woman to score a hundred in the tournament. She just continues to step up for her sides in the big moments.
Martin also credited Knight for the perfect supporting act, noting the veteran duo dominated the middle overs through intelligent strike rotation and well-timed boundaries.
Ultimately, Martin felt England’s depth of experience proved too much for South Africa, with the centre-wicket stand laying the platform for a commanding all-round display.
South Africa Struggle to Build Momentum
Assessing the Proteas’ pursuit, Martin observed that their batting unit buckled under scoreboard pressure and failed to construct meaningful partnerships.
She pointed out that England’s disciplined attack forced South Africa into high-risk options, while a lack of strike rotation prevented any sustained challenge. Bar a slightly cautious start with the bat, Martin described the performance as a complete team effort from the hosts.
Dream Final Awaits at Lord’s
Looking ahead to Sunday’s showpiece at Lord’s, Martin believes the occasion ranks among the biggest in English women’s cricket history, with a capacity home crowd poised to witness a storied rivalry renewed.
You grow up as kids in the backyard or on the streets dreaming of playing in a World Cup final at home and calling yourselves world champions. It doesn’t get much better than this. This is everything we play the sport for.
While acknowledging Australia’s stature as one of world cricket’s most formidable outfits under captain Sophie Molineux, Martin said England will draw immense motivation from contesting a World Cup final on home soil, setting the stage for a high-stakes clash between two of the game’s heavyweights.
