Secretary Rubio Engages Lebanese President Aoun in Dialogue

Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a conversation with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. Rubio praised President Aoun’s bravery and vision for initiating direct negotiations with Israel, despite continued attempts by Hezbollah to obstruct the process at the expense of the Lebanese populace. He stressed that Hezbollah bears full responsibility for the ongoing hostilities and called for an immediate cessation of its attacks and provocations to facilitate de‑escalation. Rubio reiterated U.S. support for the Lebanese government as it seizes a historic opportunity to achieve peace, reconstruction, and a brighter future for its citizens.
