Trains Collide in Egypt, Killing Seven and Injuring Over 100

Trains connecting Giza to Upper Egypt have been suspended while cranes are deployed to clear the wreckage. Authority officials have not yet provided an estimate of how long the clearance is expected to take.

The crash occurred between Kafr Ammar and Al‑Raqa stations in Al‑Ayat, near the site of the February 2002 tragedy that killed more than 370 people when a passenger train travelling from Cairo to Luxor was engulfed in fire.

Official reports attribute the February 2002 disaster to more than 370 fatalities, though some sources suggest the death toll may be higher.

Additional rail accidents in the same region during 2009 contributed further deaths.

Egyptian authorities have called for the transport minister’s resignation in response to the recent rail disaster.

International leaders and dignitaries have extended their condolences and support to the victims and their families.

Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry expressed solidarity with Egypt and wished the hurt a speedy recovery.

Turkey’s ambassador to Egypt posted on X condolences and sympathy to the victims, their families, and the Egyptian people.
