A small plane struck the rear of a pickup truck during an emergency landing on a busy Florida highway on Saturday, but authorities said no one was injured in the dramatic incident.
Video footage obtained from the sheriff’s office showed the Cessna 172 passing over the truck as it descended toward a full landing on a road in Fort Myers at about 11:45 a.m. on Saturday.
The aircraft made an emergency landing after the pilot reported an engine issue, according to a Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) statement.
The plane had taken off from Sebring, Florida, around 11 a.m. on Saturday before making the emergency landing about 50 minutes later, according to flight tracking data.
There were two people on board the aircraft, and the pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Bayshore Road.
There were no reported injuries at the scene, according to the Lee County sheriff’s office.
“Couldn’t have been a better outcome. Grateful doesn’t come close!” Carmine Marceno, Lee County’s sheriff, shared in a post to X.
LCSO Patrol & Florida’s department of transportation safely relocated the aircraft while the FAA works to assume the investigation, Marceno added.
The FAA is the lead agency on the investigation into the incident.
The emergency landing came one week after a business jet carrying nine people nose-dived into a south Florida neighborhood and erupted into a giant fireball.
