Batters Saud Shakeel and Abdullah Shafique have been added to the Pakistan squad for the remainder of the Test series in the West Indies and the subsequent tour of England.
The PCB announced that Shafiq will replace injured batter Abdullah Fazal, who suffered a back injury during training before the first Test in Trinidad and is now ruled out of both series. Shafique last appeared in Test cricket in October 2025 during a match against South Africa in Rawalpindi.
Shakeel had been slated to miss the West Indies leg because of fitness concerns, while his involvement in England remained uncertain pending selection needs. Director of Cricket Aaqib Javed said the left‑handed batsman is expected to join the squad in England earlier than anticipated.
In the opening Test against the West Indies, Pakistan fielded six specialist batsmen, promoting all‑rounder Aamer Jamal to number seven, which resulted in a prolonged lower order. The team hopes that Shafique and Shakeel’s additions will provide greater batting firepower.
Pakistan find themselves at 199 for 3 at the close of Day 3, having conceded a total of 311 after being put to bat. Captain Shan Masood remained unbeaten on 88 off 137 deliveries, while Imam‑ul‑Haq contributed a brisk 63 off 102 balls. Bowler Mohammad Ali spearheaded the attack with 4/50 from 21.5 overs, complemented by Mohammad Abbas’s 3/63 from 26 overs.
