Shahrukh Khan has lauded Shubman Gill’s development as a leader, highlighting the Indian captain’s continuous engagement with tactical decisions. The Gujarat Titans batsman shared insights from his experience under Gill’s leadership, emphasizing the captain’s strategic mindset and adaptability.
According to Shahrukh, Gill has significantly evolved from his role with Gujarat Titans to leading India’s Test side. The aggressive tactics employed during the England series underscored his growing prowess as a captain. Shahrukh also noted Gill’s deep understanding of team dynamics and the value of his leadership in the dressing room.
“Obviously, as a captain, he has grown immensely from captaining Gujarat Titans to captaining the country’s Test side. I don’t have to explain how good a captain he is. Because we saw the series in England, the way he captained, how aggressive he was whenever the team needed him to be. And looking at his journey as a captain, it’s been wonderful to share the dressing room alongside him, where he understands players very well,” Shahrukh said as quoted by NDTV Sports.
Tactical approach and constant game awareness
Shahrukh described Gill’s leadership as nuanced, with tactical decisions often imperceptible to outsiders but evident from within the team. The batsman explained that Gill’s decision-making involves ongoing analysis of game situations, maintaining a dynamic focus throughout matches.
“He is somebody who is very tactical. Doesn’t look like much when you see from the outside. But as teammates, when you see him every day at practise and in the game, his mind is constantly running on what to do,” Shahrukh said.
Shahrukh emphasized that Gill consistently evaluates multiple strategic options during critical moments, often selecting the most effective course of action. Playing under Gill’s leadership, he added, has been an enriching experience.
“He has got so many options in his head which he more often than not chooses the right thing. And to be playing under him is a pleasure,” Shahrukh said.
Shahrukh’s remarks followed a challenging IPL 2026 season, during which he struggled for form and was eventually removed from the playing XI despite his franchise’s retention.
