A 19-year-old student from China has drafted a legally notarized will leaving his entire personal fortune—valued at 20 million yuan (approximately US$2.9 million)—to a childhood friend, a decision that has ignited widespread debate on social media.
The Shanghai-based teenager, identified only by the surname Li, arranged for the notarized document to transfer all assets registered in his name, including a residential apartment and several million yuan in savings, to his longtime companion.
According to Li, the property was gifted to him by his parents, who divorced and subsequently remarried. He described a strained relationship with them, noting that they devoted little time to his upbringing, leaving him feeling emotionally detached.
Li further explained that he is an avid participant in extreme sports and frequently engages in activities that place his life in jeopardy. Should a fatal accident occur, he expressed a clear wish to prevent the spouses of his parents—whom he considers virtual strangers—from laying claim to his estate.
