Geoff Ogilvy came close to guiding the International side to a long‑awaited Presidents Cup victory in 2026. The U.S. team ultimately won 17‑13, but a late American charge in the Sunday singles kept the title out of International hands.

Even so, Ogilvy’s performance as captain generated widespread praise. Heading into the final day, the International squad was competitive, and his U.S. counterpart, Brandt Snedeker, was forced to apologize for team errors.

Despite the loss, many observers believe Ogilvy merits another opportunity to lead the side to its first win since 1998. The 2028 Presidents Cup will be staged in his native Australia, adding a compelling local dimension to the discussion.

On GOLF’s Subpar podcast, hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz argued that Ogilvy should be given a second stint as captain. They highlighted the logistical advantage of hosting the event in Australia, where the International team secured its solitary victory 30 years earlier.

A potential obstacle to Ogilvy’s re‑appointment is fellow Australian Adam Scott, who is widely regarded as a contender for the role. Scott’s standing within the Australian golf community makes him a strong candidate, and he could also serve as a playing captain, similar to Tiger Woods in 2019.

Stoltz noted that Scott’s current form—evidenced by improved driving distance—makes him a likely selection as a player on the 2028 team. Knost added that Scott’s dual role as player and captain could be a compelling narrative.

Ultimately, both analysts concluded that Ogilvy remains the best choice to lead the International side. His communication skills, respect among players, and availability—given his focus on design work—were cited as key strengths.

The 2028 Presidents Cup is scheduled for late 2028 at Kingston Heath Golf Club in Australia, two years from the time of the broadcast.
