India secured a five-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first ODI at Eden Park in Auckland, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. While the match featured strong performances from India’s bowling attack and a brilliant half-century from Virat Kohli, an amusing moment involving Shreyas Iyer also captured viewers’ attention.
The Indian batter was sitting in the dugout, fully padded and waiting for his turn to bat, when he began an eye exercise using his bat. The moment became even more entertaining when former India cricketer Ravi Shastri, who was on commentary, noticed the activity and imitated Iyer.
Shreyas Iyer’s Eye Exercise Amuses Ravi Shastri
Iyer held his bat straight in front of his face with both hands and moved his eyes from left to right and then back again. He appeared focused on the exercise until he noticed the cameras were recording him. He then looked toward the screen, smiled cheekily, and broke into laughter. Meanwhile, Shastri was seen copying the same eye movements from the commentary box, making the moment even more amusing for viewers.

Arshdeep Singh was India’s leading bowler with figures of 4/70, while debutant Gurnoor Brar impressed with three wickets for 44 runs. Anshul Kamboj also played an important role, conceding just 22 runs in his 10 overs and picking up two wickets as New Zealand were bowled out for 185.
In the chase, Kohli led India’s response with an attacking 74 off 51 deliveries, including 13 fours and a six. Shubman Gill provided support with a composed 37, helping India recover from Rohit Sharma’s early dismissal and move closer to the revised target of 143 runs. The visitors eventually sealed a five-wicket victory via the DLS method in 22.4 overs.
