LAHORE: A group of 337 Indian Sikhs reached Pakistan via the Wagah border Sunday to join events commemorating the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
The principal ceremonies will occur June 29 at Gurdwara Dera Sahib, a historically significant site linked to the Maharaja.
Upon arrival, officials from the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) and Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) greeted the visitors warmly.
ETPB Chairman Qamarul Zaman, Additional Secretary Shrines Nasir Mushtaq, PSGPC President Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, and Deputy Secretary Shrines Faraz Abbas were among attendees.
Arora praised the ETPB’s logistics for Sikh participants, noting increased youth involvement in the event.
Zaman emphasized Pakistan’s efforts to advance religious tourism and interfaith cooperation, highlighting the secure and hospitable environment provided for the visitors.
Mushtaq confirmed comprehensive support measures, including dedicated security, transport, free meals, medical aid, and specialized vehicles with Rescue 1122 escorts.
Delegations from Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee thanked Pakistani authorities, applauding the nation’s commitment to religious freedom and peaceful coexistence.
