Tasha Kitchen and her husband Geoffrey, who called themselves soul‑mates, were about to begin a six‑week family trip across Singapore, Indonesia and Australia when the tragedy unfolded in May 2024.
Severe turbulence was reported over Myanmar, prompting the airline to divert the aircraft to Bangkok, Thailand, where it made an urgent diversion for an emergency landing.
“There had been some turbulence over Europe and it had been shaky over the seas, but about ten hours into the flight the major turbulence struck.”
She said, “It was so severe—it felt as though the plane was plunging. My Kindle and Geoff’s phone had tumbled onto the floor, and I realized something terribly wrong with the aircraft.”
When the jet descended, Kitchen explained that her husband collapsed atop her, compressing her against the armrest. Crew members quickly assisted, and medical personnel began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Kitchen was rushed to the hospital while her husband remained aboard the aircraft. It took roughly two days before she learned he had passed away.
Investigations indicate that Geoffrey suffered a fatal heart attack after the aircraft abruptly lost altitude at high altitude.
