[Title] Clan Head Coach Mike Sirant Aims High for Competitive 2026/27 Campaign
Glasgow Clan Head Coach Mike Sirant is eager to build upon last season’s progress as he embarks on his inaugural full season under his command.
Sirant began last season as the assistant coach before being promoted midway through the campaign, ultimately guiding Clan to their second appearance at Playoff Finals Weekend.
Prior to preparations kicking off for 2026/27, Sirant utilized the summer to return home to Winnipeg with his family. He recounted, “We were able to go back to Winnipeg and it was a great summer to reconnect with our kids.” Stationing a cabin on the lake became a priority for him, though the project remains a work in progress—he humorously noted that although he lacks formal credentials, he possesses a knack for figuring things out.
Attention quickly shifted to hockey as Sirant collaborated closely with newly appointed General Manager Zach Vinnell throughout the summer. Vinnell previously played for Glasgow and Sheffield and served as an Assistant Coach with Coventry Blaze.
“Zach did a great job assembling a Glasgow team that will be highly competitive this season,” he remarked. “We enjoy an excellent working relationship and a very collaborative approach. While Zach manages contract negotiations and the logistics of acquiring players, Sirant and his assistants focused on on‑ice performance and defining the club’s desired identity.”
“We prioritized quality talent who embodied the right mentality. Zach handles significant administrative duties and scheduling, acting as the organization’s liaison with the league to ensure compliance with registration and eligibility standards. This enabled Sirant and his assistants to concentrate on on‑ice performance and shaping the team’s identity.”
With several players retiring after last season, Sirant and the Clan staff identified the precise profile required for future additions.
“We faced a departure wave of retirees last season, so the target profile was clear,” he explained. “We sought youthful athletes—driven, eager to improve, and hungry to win. Ideally, they would possess speed, skill, grit, and an unrelenting competitiveness.”
“Crucially, we sought individuals who blended character with competence,” he added. “Video analysis confirmed their on‑ice potential, followed by rigorous reference checks to ensure they were reliable teammates, selfless, professional, and genuinely committed to growth and victory.”
“We specifically wanted teammates willing to put the collective above the self.”
With the roster now assembled, Sirant views training camp as vital for defining the team’s identity both inside and outside the rink.
“Training camp offers a crucial window to set seasonal goals, cultivate the proper locker‑room culture, and forge our team identity,” he stated. “Success in the Elite League relies on clearly defining how we intend to play.”
“These contests also serve as prime opportunities to gauge the group, test varying tactics and roles, and determine player suitability for specific scenarios. It involves instilling our tactical frameworks and laying appropriate foundations for the year—constantly refining execution as these initial weeks are pivotal for understanding the squad.”
“Our aim is to build strong personal connections with every player, uncover their motivations, and equip them to thrive on the ice.”
Following Clan’s journey to the Playoff Finals Weekend last season, Sirant is determined that the organization rise above previous achievements.
“I am genuinely thrilled for the coming season,” the head coach declared. “Having invested heavily in video review and dedicated preparation over the summer, the squad I’ve built stands proudly to represent the Clan. While our term concludes well last season, the objective is to move further—aiming for a final four placement and securing our chance to win the championship.”
“Last year provided a successful conclusion, yet our entire organization remains unsatisfied with the endpoint. The central challenge globally is to advance further down the standings, striving to secure a spot in the final four and realize our ambition to clinch the trophy.”
“We are enthusiastic about that challenge. Winning will not be simple—it is tough out here, given the league’s caliber of elite competition, star-studded lineups, and top-tier opposition. There are truly no easy games.”
“We stand ready for the grind, approaching practices and matches methodically—one drill and one game at a time—while remaining steadfast in pursuit of our objectives.”
