RIYADH: Six national projects spearheaded by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) have received recognition at the 2026 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) for outstanding achievements in artificial intelligence and digital innovation, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Friday.
The accolades highlight initiatives dedicated to fostering responsible AI usage, accelerating digital transformation, and reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s standing in data-centric technologies in line with its Vision 2030 development strategy.
Among the honored projects are the AI Service Provider Accreditation program, promoting ethical AI adoption, and an AI-driven early breast cancer detection system aimed at enhancing diagnostic precision and healthcare outcomes. Other recognized efforts include the Generative AI Accelerator (GAIA), supporting the development of generative AI applications; Tahseen, which leverages AI to digitally restore and improve Saudi historical media archives; the AI Principles and Ethics in the Media Sector, created in collaboration with the Ministry of Media; and Nafath, the Kingdom’s national digital identity platform developed with the Ministry of Interior.
The awards follow an April announcement that nine SDAIA-led projects were shortlisted for the WSIS Prizes 2026. Beyond the six winners, nominees included the National AI Index, the National Open Data Platform, and the multilingual Data and AI Glossary—a reference tool available in Arabic, English, and French.
SPA noted that the awards underscore Saudi Arabia’s expanding global influence in AI, data governance, and digital innovation, demonstrating efforts to advance secure digital services, build public trust in AI, and promote advanced technologies across government and industry sectors.
The World Summit on the Information Society, organized by the International Telecommunication Union and other UN agencies, honors projects utilizing information and communication technologies to drive sustainable development and digital inclusion worldwide.
This latest recognition strengthens SDAIA’s growing role in international technology forums as Saudi Arabia continues to invest significantly in AI and digital transformation under Vision 2030.
