The nonprofit organization Sounds Of Saving specializes in providing tools, resources, and curriculum designed to help young people aged 14 to 24 utilize music to support mental health and wellness. As part of their “Song That Found Me At The Right Time” series, the initiative recently featured a contribution from Skullcrusher, following the release of the artist’s acclaimed album, And Your Song Is Like A Circle.
Helen Ballentine, the ethereal singer-songwriter behind Skullcrusher, performs a rendition of Tim Buckley’s “Song To The Siren,” drawing stylistic inspiration from This Mortal Coil. Throughout the video, Ballentine reflects on her personal journey with addiction, the importance of finding community during rehabilitation, and the necessity of learning to sit with anxiety and difficult emotions.
“If you’re feeling really dark, you kind of have to sit in that for a little, and come to a point where you’re ready to accept it, and move on,” Ballentine explains. “Taking the time to acknowledge, validate, and respect your emotions helps you reach a place where you can eventually move forward.” View her testimonial and the Buckley cover in the video below.
