Slayyyter Escorts Sombr on an Ambulance Stretcher to the Reading Festival Stage

Slayyyter accompanied Sombr on an ambulance stretcher to the stage, launching his performance at the Reading Festival.

The American pop star took the festival’s main stage, referred to as The Grid, at Little John’s Farm earlier today (August 29), preceding headline sets by Dave and RAYE.

The performance generated one of the largest audiences of the weekend so far, commencing with an elaborate entrance broadcast on the stage screens.

The footage depicted the ambulance’s rear doors opening to expose Sombr lying on a stretcher with Slayyyter seated beside him. Once off, the duo held hands and walked through the backstage area toward The Grid.

Along the way, Sombr paused to drop to the ground for a set of press-ups, which Slayyyter mirrored. They subsequently emerged together at the stage side, where Slayyyter briefly rallied the crowd and waved to fans before departing for Sombr to start his set.

Slayyyter had performed her own set on The Grid earlier that afternoon, earning four-and-a-half stars from NME. The publication praised her “hangover-demolishing, hype-worthy performance,” noting: “That Slayyyter might have given up music before she got to this point makes today’s set feel even more special – a star who’s grinded for her breakthrough and is now enjoying the fruits of her labour, big time.”

Her set heavily featured material from her third album, ‘WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA’, which arrived in March. NME rated the record four stars, describing it as a “new strain of brash, sleazy pop.”

Meanwhile, Sombr reached Reading less than 24 hours after performing at Electric Picnic in Ireland, where he enlisted Noel and Mike Hogan of The Cranberries to cover ‘Zombie’. This marked his second recent collaboration with the band, having previously performed ‘Linger’ with the Hogan brothers at Dublin’s 3Arena in March.

Sombr released his debut album, ‘I Barely Know Her’, last August. In a four-star review, NME observed: “‘I Barely Know Her’ is an album driven by heartache but that hasn’t stopped Sombr from creating a gloriously dynamic record that’s less about misery and more about catharsis. It’s sad boy indie with a smirk.”

Both Sombr and Slayyyter are scheduled to perform at Leeds Festival tomorrow (August 30).
