South Africa Highway Collision Claims 21 Lives, Injures Four

A severe head-on collision occurred on a major South African highway involving two minibus taxis and an SUV, resulting in at least 21 fatalities and four serious injuries, authorities confirmed on Monday.

The accident took place on Sunday night in the Western Cape Province, between the small towns of Prince Albert and Leeu-Gamka, approximately 380 kilometers east of Cape Town, according to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the national traffic agency.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Christopher Spies stated that the collision involved two Toyota minibus taxis and a Suzuki sport utility vehicle.

Eighteen people were declared dead at the scene, with three additional fatalities reported after victims were hospitalized, bringing the total death toll to 21, as noted by Spies. The Western Cape Mobility Department confirmed that four other individuals sustained serious injuries.
