(RTTNews) – Southwest Airlines (LUV) is set to enter the airport lounge sector, unveiling plans to launch its debut premium lounge network in late 2027. The initiative aims to bolster the airline’s loyalty programme and appeal to high-value travellers.
Initially, four lounges are scheduled to open in Austin, Baltimore, Honolulu, and Nashville. These locations will serve as the foundation for a broader network, with plans for at least seven additional lounges in major business and leisure markets over the coming years.
Southwest will collaborate with Chase to develop the lounge network, leveraging their established 30-year partnership. Access to the lounges is expected to be available through a new Southwest Rapid Rewards credit card issued by Chase, slated for release in 2027. The lounges will feature dining options, amenities, and other travel benefits.
Tony Roach, Southwest’s chief customer and brand officer, stated that the lounges will enhance the airline’s hospitality experience while supporting the continued growth of the Rapid Rewards programme.
This development reflects a broader industry trend in which airlines increasingly utilise lounges and premium travel benefits to foster loyalty and generate additional revenue. Southwest had previously indicated its interest in exploring a lounge network as part of a wider strategy to expand its premium offerings.
