Soybean futures experienced a recovery from early lows on Friday, closing with mixed results as traders anticipated the release of trade details on Monday. November contracts gained 1.5 cents, while some back months declined by 1.75 cents. For the week, November soybeans rose 15.5 cents. The national average cash bean price increased by 1.5 cents to $12.625. Soymeal futures fell by 10 cents to $2.20 in most contracts, with October up $19.30 on the week. Soy oil prices were mixed, ranging from 1 to 33 points, and October slipped back 44 points.
Limited information was released on Friday regarding the trade talks between US and Chinese leaders. Reports indicated that USTR Greer was looking to release details on Monday.
Heavy rains are expected over the next week, with 1 to 4 inches forecast from Texas to the Great Lakes and from Nebraska to Indiana. Ohio and areas east of the Ohio River may see lower totals, according to NOAA.
CFTC data showed managed money adding to their net long position in soybean futures and options by 20,331 contracts to 265,041 contracts for the week of September 22. Spec traders in soy meal reached a new record net long of 192,368 contracts.
USDA export sales data indicates soybean commitments at 21.2 million metric tons, 94% above the same period last year and 46% of the USDA forecast, well above the five-year average of 38%.
November 2026 soybeans closed at $13.19, up 1.5 cents. Nearby cash was $12.625, up 1.5 cents. January 2027 soybeans closed at $13.325, up 0.5 cents, and March 2027 soybeans closed at $13.3925, down 0.25 cents.
