Wildfires across Spain have triggered evacuations of several districts surrounding Toledo, located 75 miles from Madrid. The blazes are part of a broader surge of fires affecting western Europe, with southern France and Italy also experiencing significant outbreaks. According to the European Forest Fire Information System, over 393,000 hectares of forest have burned in Spain in 2025, marking the most extensive damage in recent years, driven primarily by extreme temperatures linked to climate change.
