Feyenoord’s sporting director Robert Eenhoorn expressed dissatisfaction with the 5‑2 win in Leeuwarden, stating that frustration outweighed satisfaction.
“This issue clearly extends beyond Feyenoord and, regrettably, has persisted for decades without resolution,” Eenhoorn added.
“Consequently, we must convene with all stakeholders — including clubs, the KNVB, and civil authorities — to devise a collective remedy.”
Leeuwarden’s mayor, Foort van Oosten, denounced the incident and pledged a thorough investigation, while the Dutch Football Association announced it would reassess its protocols for handling disorder.
Although the match continued despite fan injuries, it would have been halted had a player or official been struck.
“That would be unacceptable,” Jan Bluyssen, KNVB’s manager of professional competition affairs, told the Dutch news agency ANP.
“We need to evaluate whether the current protocol remains fit for purpose and explore possible revisions.”
