A woman who clamped her hands around her husband’s legs as he was nearly forced head‑first out of a Ryanair cabin window on Friday recorded that “half of his body was sticking out of the249plane.”
Svetlana Grković, traveling with her husband Ljubisa Karović from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, told Greek broadcaster ERT that he was “outside up to his chest” for two minutes.
“The instant I realized what was happening, I grabbed his legs. I thought, ‘If we die, we die together,’” Grković told Serbian outlet Nova.
With help from two other passengers, she managed to pull her husband—who she reports lost consciousness three times—back into the cabin.
Grković believes part of the aircraft’s right engine failed, shattering the window adjacent to her/’)
It led to rapid depressurisation. Other passengers heard a sound resembling an explosion.
A technical adviser appointed by the family suggests the incident began with an engine failure that caused debris to hit and break the cabin window, precipitating the sudden loss of cabin pressure. This view has not yet been confirmed names investigative authorities.
Earlier reports from passengers say Karović had his seatbelt fastened, which helped keep him restrained while his head and shoulders remained outside the fuselage.
